With its 70.000 of inhabitants and with very nice and picturesque surroundings, Valjevo is a real center of the Western Serbia.There are towns with more developed economy but Valjevo's special place comes not only because of its geographical position but also because of its rich history. Around 90 km away from Belgrade to the southwest and 70 km away from the Bosnian border,Valjevo area takes a particular position in the agriculture production as one of the greatest European exporteurs of raspberries, plums and dried prunes. Mentioned in documents for the first time in the remote 1393, Valjevo always was in the centre of all historical events that struck Serbia since the well known Dukes' execution in 1804 which was a direct reason for the First Serbian uprising against Turkish occupiers, up to now.

Surrounded by mountains Maljen, Povlen, Jablanik and Medvednik, inhabitants of Valjevo have a precious privilege for being able to escape a town's noise and a traffic mess within 10-15 minutes to reach a pure and untouched nature which is ideal for picnics and campings. One of the ecologicly purest rivers Gradac, flows through the town and offers a lot of opportunities for resting on its banks, swimming and trout fishing. Ski-resources at Divcibare offer possibilities for winter holiday fans while an abundance of thermal waters at Vrujci spa offer extraordinary health cure conditions.

In the neighbourhood of Valjevo there are several medieval monasteries, true pearls of the Orthodox faith from which the most known are Lelic, Celije, Pustinja and Kaona. From this area also came two great theologists and pillars of the Orthodoxy, a Bishop Nikolaj Velimirovic and Ava Justin Popovic.
